a tower of wood and vine
branches interlocked with time
sinew and life intertwine
and grow into a home
the leafs do fall and grow anew
the lines tell of years we've been through
my roots are here, alone with you
in our lonely grove
we used to neighbor an apple seed,
some oaks, a birch, and maples: three!
but now remains just you and me
to weather out the years
children play among our sheltered arms
and grandparents spin their yarn
the land around us was once a farm
but it only grew
and so I shed my final seed
may it grow, with a need
this last touch, this last farewell
as I return to my birth
